Did you know that 4.23 Communication has an Official Haiku Division?
It does!
Yes, it’s a kind of a silly name for a silly, but challenging, creative outlet. I like to write haikus. I like them to be a little funny, a little snarky, a little absurd.
And I don’t mind sharing them under the banner of 4.23 Communication. Because if there is one thing I tell the messaging and content clients I work with, it’s this:
“You get to be yourself in your content.”
In fact, the more your content reflects you, your message, your point of view, your ethos, the better.
For some people, it’s freeing. But more often than not, I see folks pull away. It can feel a little confronting and a little vulnerable to people to truly be themselves in their content.
And sometimes, it’s just hard to do. We’re not taught to use our own voice. We’re taught to sound formal or educated or persuasive. We have loads of baggage from our corporate days an our school days.
“This is simply not how it’s done” — someone probably told you somewhere along your journey to put yourself and your business out there.
That’s their opinion.
People ultimately buy from people they know and trust. People ultimately connect to and follow people who seem to “get” them and know their story.
And that’s why I share the haikus that I write for fun within the realm of my business. Writing can be hard, I like to give myself a little creative stretch now and then. So I turn to haikus which have just the right balance of structure and absurdity.
The Well Said Haiku … For the Holidays series is running now on Instagram. You can follow along at www.instagram.com/575by423
It’s one of the ways I show up as me in my content. Because that’s what good messaging does. It telegraphs you. It attracts your group and lets the others walk away. It shows your heart. ♥
Wishing you and yours a warm and wonderful holiday.
